LowCountry Jazz Festival
N. Charleston Performing Arts Center
Greater Charleston, SC
September 3-6, 2015
The Greater Charleston Low Country Jazz Festival is a culturally integral fundraiser for Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc.
, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose primary mission
is to decrease the health disparities and increase health literacy, especially for African Americans and the underserved in our community, South Carolina, and the nation. In addition, proceeds go to the Thaddeus John Bell, M.D. Endowment Fund
assisting students pursuing health science degrees from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Far more than a celebration of music and rich Southern Culture, this festival is a study of the origins of Jazz itself. Charleston's jazz music legacy
is little known. New Orleans owns the creation myth for jazz, but there is evidence that what happened in Charleston parallels, or perhaps, predates the New Orleans scene.
Following the premise of MUSIC AS MEDICINE, to attend it is to feel uplifted, to learn and to be a part of something bigger... to actually make a difference. We highly recommend adding this Festival to your Smooth Lifestyle bucket list!
